Do you need a new car battery? 3 signs it’s about to die

The car battery isn’t something many people tend to think about until it starts to cause problems. Here are 3 signs that it’s probably time for a new one.

Your car battery is responsible for making sure your car runs, and powers up your car’s radio, lights and ignition. It’s therefore usually noticeable when something goes wrong. We operate a free battery health check and can sort you out with a brand-new battery in no time. Simply contact our team of car experts in Blandford today to arrange a convenient time and date.

1. Your car isn’t starting

Most of us will have encountered a moment, usually on a cold, frosty morning, where our car simply refuses to start. This is because when it is cold outside, the chemical reactions necessary to make the battery work can’t happen as easily, leaving the battery drained. Leaving your radio or lights on for a long period of time with the ignition off can also result in a drained battery.

Your car refusing to start is therefore not always an indicator that your battery is in urgent need of replacement – you may just need a jump start to solve the problem. However, if you find that this is becoming a frequent issue, even in warmer weather and with no other explanation, then it is likely that your battery is no longer working as it should and will need replacing.

2. Headlights are dimmer than usual

Bright headlights are essential for safe driving at night – you need to be able to see the road ahead of you. If you’ve noticed that your headlights suddenly seem dimmer than usual, it’s more than likely they are not getting the power they need from your car battery.

3. Dashboard battery light is on

A reliable indicator that you have a problem with your car battery is the battery icon on your dashboard – if it’s on, it’s a sign that there’s an issue with the recharging system, in other words, the battery isn’t getting enough energy to work properly.

This could mean an issue with the alternator or a corroded cable somewhere, so if you notice the battery warning light come on whilst you are driving, you should look to get your car looked over by an expert.

Our team offer leading car battery services in Blandford, and can give your battery a comprehensive evaluation and either provide a replacement or give your existing battery a boost. Call us today on 01258 459 798.
