What is the process of a car diagnostics appointment?

The process of a car diagnostic appointment will typically follow a similar structure each time. However, the time the appointment takes and necessary repairs will vary depending on the findings of the test.

  1. When you arrive, one of our mechanics will have a quick discussion with you to learn more about the issues you are having.
  2. The mechanic will do a quick visual inspection before hooking up any diagnostics machines to check for visible signs of damage and leaks.
  3. The mechanic will connect the Onboard Diagnostics Scanner (OBD scanner) to your car which will pull data from your cars on board diagnostics system.
  4. If there is a problem, an error code will show on the OBD scanner, which the mechanic will be able to read and interpret.
  5. Depending on the results, further inspection might be required.
  6. Our mechanic will share any results with you and discuss the next steps and repairs.

While your car is being tested, you are more than welcome to wait in our office. Alternatively, you can head out elsewhere, and we will call you with the results.

This will depend on the issue. We can not guarantee that we will be able to fix the issue on the same day as the diagnostics test.

It will depend on other appointments booked in for that day and the problem itself. In some cases, we will need to order a part, so will likely need to keep your car in the garage while the part is delivered to us and fitted.

This will depend on the warning light that is showing.

We advise that you book an appointment with us as soon as the warning light appears on your dashboard to get it checked. From there, we will be able to recommend work that might be needed and discuss whether you can drive with the light showing.
